The Government Forum on Electronic Identity is an annual event focused on national electronic identity and its applications in Asia. It is held each year in a different Asian country that acts as a host for the event. The Forum brings together the four key stakeholder groups in the identity space:

1. Identity authorities and users in Asian countries
2. International organisations and development agencies
3. Identity solutions providers
4. The domain experts

The 11th Government Discussion Forum on Electronic Identity is hosted by the Information & Communication Technology Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and APSCA. The Forum will be held on 1-2 December 2015 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In its 11th year the forum theme will be How National eID Can Support Delivery of Public and Private Sector Services and will focus on three key areas:

1. Latest Thinking in National Electronic Identity Schemes
The forum will examine how new approaches to electronic and digital identity, often inspired by innovative identity technologies, are changing the development of national identity systems and identity applications.

2. Delivering Secure and Legal Online Digital Identity
The proliferation of mobile devices and exploding connectivity means that citizens and residents will expect to be able to prove their identities and access services online, while maintaining the privacy of their personal data.

3. Enabling Financial Inclusion and Online Financial Services
The growing synergy between identity and finance: how secure and legal eID and digital ID can enable or enhance financial services to support economic growth and social development in both developed and developing countries.

Since 2002 the Government Forum on Electronic Identity has grown to become Asia’s largest meeting of government agencies responsible for eID management, national population databases, national identity cards and government eID services in their countries. From 2004 to 2013, each meeting was attended by an average of over 100 government representatives. Each year over 30 government agencies from 25 to more than 35 countries across Asia, the Gulf, Africa, Europe and the Americas have participated in the forum. These senior government decision-makers are directly responsible for eID management and services in their respective countries.
A technology exposition of latest solutions and technologies for government electronic identity schemes will be held concurrently with the Forum to enable government officers and eID experts to learn of the latest technologies for biometrics, eID infrastructure and management, enrolment and registration, identity verification and authentication, software and database solutions.
